A close-knit family more than just a ‘society’, the Sri Lankan Society of Imperial College London was founded over 20 years ago. Despite being relatively young, we are proud to be one of the most successful constituents of the Imperial College Union, managing the second largest budget of any cultural society. Our aim is to bring the warmth and vibrancy of Sri Lankan culture to Imperial and the UK, and to provide a welcoming network for Sri Lankans at Imperial, away from home.
Our celebration of Lankan culture extends throughout the year; from the Warwick University Cricket Tournament (we were champions in 2018), the Imperial BanglaSoc Carrom Tournament and our Christmas & Avurudhu meals! Our flagship event Sapphire is the largest Lankan event in the UK! A dinner-dance that attracts over 1000 guests from across the country to enjoy authentic Sri Lankan food, the hottest Sri Lankan entertainment, & the company of all your friends across the country. We have raised £50,000 since our inception for charities aiding children in the Northern Province to gain access to clean drinking water as well as helping restore eyesight to thousands through cataract operations.
Feel free to come to one of our weekly meetings. They are normally held every Thursday during term time in Union Meeting Room 1 & 2. Per tradition, we go to dinner afterwards. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us via social media.
